India
Indian team put up a highly impressive performance against South Africa in their first match. Shikhar Dhawan opening with Rohit Sharma made a marking partnership of 127 runs leading team to victory. Making the play of Indian team more impressive was the stability of the middle order batsmen. Virat Kohli, Dinesh Karthik, Suresh Raina and summing up Skipper MS Dhoni all went on a run spree against the SA bowlers. Not only the spinners but the younger talent of the Indian also handled pacers from South African players easily. All rounder Ravindra Jadeja coupled with R Ashwin has provided the extra security to the team.
Bowling has being always being the concern of the Indian team. This tournament has also seen some of the woes in the bowling order. Umesh Yadav who impressed everyone with his deliveries against Australia in the warm up match was not able to maintain his accuracy against South Africa. Ishant Sharma simply leaked runs touching the economy of 8.50runs/over, made skipper Dhoni to introduce Suresh Raina for 6 overs. However the spinners Jadeja and Ashwin were able to restrict the SA batsmen. Fielding is being the real strength of the team in this tournament just there are concerns with the bowling.
West Indies
West Indies started impressively against the Pakistan bowlers but at the end they simply lost control over the match losing their 8 wickets. Though the team marked a 2 wickets win against Pakistan but it is a deal of concern for the team. The opening batting order of the team included Johnson Charles, Darren Bravo and Ramnaresh Sarwan. They all simple succumbed against the Pakistan bowlers getting back to pavilion without scoring double digit runs. The rest of the lineup also failed to impress the fans and show cased no impressive play. This time West Indies team needs to work on all the loop holes they have. Also one of the important aspects is to maintain a profitable partnership together.
In the bowling section team was simple appreciable with its bowlers working with accuracy, technique and pace. Declining the Pakistan team first to 15/3 and then taking them to 110/7 was very impressive. Combo of Kemar Roach and Sunil Narine were very crucial in restricting the Pakistan batsmen. Captain Dwayne Bravo was also impressive with his deliveries. Also Kieron Pollard was able to put up a good play.
