Share this history on :

In the 8th encounter at the Kennington Oval in London, England will be locking horns with Sri Lanka in the ICC Champions Trophy 2013 tournament. Sri Lanka which faced a loss in their first fixture against New Zealand by one wicket will be looking forward to make a comeback against England. However the hosts are no easy competitors and after beating Australia they will be on a high. For one it is the battle to be in the race while for the other it’s an opportunity to make space in the semi finals. It will be really interesting to see these teams clashing at Oval.
Match Venue and Date
In the 8th ICC Champions Trophy match, England will be taking on to Sri Lanka. The match will be played at Kennington Oval in London on June 13, 2013 at 1:00 pm (local time).
England
Alastair Cook, Jonathan Trott and Ian Bell taking care of the opening order of the team’s batting, England seems to be a balanced team with an attacking ordeal. Clinching the title of the man of the match in the last game Ian Bell is looking well in form. His last inning of 91 runs is what needed to make the team triumph this Champions Trophy season and get the first ever 50 overs ODI win. For the best middle order performance team needs the performance from Eoin Morgan. This match will also witness return of Ravi Bopara and further strengthening the team in the lower orders are youngsters like Jos Butler and Joe Root.
However the real strength of the team England lies in their bowling. There are names like Stuart Broad, James Anderson and Tim Bresnan who will be crucial from the team this time as well. What gives England team an upper hand in this tournament is their familiarity with the local climate and pitch conditions. James Tredwell will be replacing Graeme Swann who is injured. For the last position in the bowling order either Ravi Bopara or Joe Root will get the chance.
Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka has not being able to impress the audience with their play in the last two matches. I first lost against India in the warm up match then it faced a defeat at Cardiff playing against Kiwis. The most concerning aspect of their play against New Zealand was their batting where team got back to pavilion at just 138 runs within 38 overs. In the batting department none of the players were able to stabilize themselves apart from Kumar Sangakkara who knocked out 68 runs. There is no doubt in the fact that the Sri Lankan team has enough talent to take on other teams but they need to show it on the pitch.
In bowling the Sri Lankan players very brilliant against the New Zealand team where they took 9 wickets. Malinga clinching 4 wickets with his yorked deliveries broke batting order of the kiwis easily. Shaminda Eranga along with Rangana Herath backed him appropriately. Tilakaratne Dilshan bowling with 1.84 economy and picking a wicket also was helpful.
